Title: OOII Crashing Out on a Synchronet Board
Post by: Psibur on October 28, 2004, 05:15:34 am
Greets,

I'm putting up a BBs using Synchronet.  Whenever I try to run OOII, it goes straight back to the door game selection menu.  I have to wonder if it is either the door drop file type selection that I need to change or if there is a setting or two off.    I can't find any error messages or anything that might give me a hint as to what is going down.

Does anybody here have OOII setup and running successfully on a Synchronet that could give a bit of helpful advice??

~2^20 Thanks,
Psibur

We test it on Synchonet.  As long as it works with that an Netfoss it's perfect these days.

Can you detail your settings?  Both the ones in OOSETUP and the ones in Synchronet.

Okay, here's the settings.  I'm hoping I could use a GAP (door.sys):

DOOR.SYS is fine.  I actually recommend using it.

These two are both wrong.  It doesn't use standard I/O nor is it a native 32-bit program.  You'll need to use Synchronet's bult-in FOSSIL driver for this game.

Also, make sure that OOII is setup to use a FOSSIL driver.  Normal Comm Support should never be used.

All the other settings look correct.

Did this work?

I'm having a smiliar problem on a Synchronet BBS.

Basically, when a caller uses the door it hangs him and opens an external window locally on my computer running the game just fine.

The only problem is, the caller is stuck at the external programs menu and can't get out or play OO2.

The external window is a DOS window, as if I had gone into the command prompt and ran the game myself locally.

Here are my configs:

Synchronet:

Name                       Operation Overkill
Internal Code              OOII
Start-up Directory         C:\SBBS\XTRN\OOII\
Command Line               OOIIDOOR.BAT
Clean-up Command Line
Execution Cost             None
Access Requirements
Execution Requirements
Multiple Concurrent Users  No
Intercept Standard I/O     No
Native (32-bit) Executable No
Use Shell to Execute       No
Modify User Data           No
Execute on Event           No
Pause After Execution      No
BBS Drop File Type         GAP             DOOR.SYS
Place Drop File In         Start-Up Directory

OOII Config:

BBS Name «» OVERKILL
OOII Registration Code «» 75777899

BBS Type «» GAP
Path to BBS «» C:\\SBBS\
Path to Ansi Bulletins «» C:\SBBS\XTRN\
Path to Ascii Bulletins «» C:\SBBS\XTRN\OOII\
Bulletin Pause String «» NONE
Multi-Node Operation? «» NO
Video Mode «» DIRECT
Comm Support «» FOSSIL
Fight Delay «» 42
Path to Game Data Files «» \SBBS\XTRN\OOII\
Path to Game Text Files «» \SBBS\XTRN\OOII\
Path to NEWS.ASC File «» \SBBS\XTRN\OOII\
Path to BANNED.DAT File «» \SBBS\XTRN\OOII\

Any help would apprciated!  This is game is a favorite of ours and we would like to get it running ASAP. :)

Change your path to the BBS to be the same as the one you set as the start-up directory.  That is the place where Synchronet is putting the door dropfile.

It probably didn't file a valid dropfile so it just loads up in localmode.  Might have to investigate changing that behavior for the next version.
