Title: Overkill defeated on Journeyman Map. Need to vote!
Post by: dgbehrends on June 25, 2007, 06:13:49 pm
Please log into the Journeyman game and place your vote.
We have 3 days to vote on a new map for the JourneyMan
game.  I really liked the last one, Victoral.  Hopefully we can come up with something similar.

The map will get reset on June 29th at 2am so get your votes in.

Until the map gets reset, let the nuclear missiles fly!

Nice, congrats!  Was it you who hath slain Overkill?  I'm about to log in and test some Base crash stuff.

I recommend speeding up the combat delay, too.  It's very slow right now, and I'm sure the accuracies for all players was up in the 90%+ range.

Yep it was me.  I was able to collect 5.5 million water crystals before I powered up in the AFB.  My base raiding netted me about 1million of that total.  I don't think I beat Overkill when I played this game way back when, so it was nice to be able to take him down.  If Mercury had been more active, I'm sure he would have stomped on me.

Right now the Tinot Map is in the lead.  This must be a 2 player map.  What happens if there is a voting tie?

I think Weezal voted for Tinot.  I did too cause I'm a sheep :)
Now on a more serious note, which map would you like to see?

tinot is fine,  I can more easily find helpless victims and their bases.  sheep?  no, I say "lambs to the slaughter"

Ha... I did vote for Tinot as I've never played it!  It looks about the right size for the small number of participants here.  I'm sure it will be a FAST game, too.  The Oracle should be easy to hunt down.

Tarix -- I'd like to see the total time set to 45-60 minutes PER DAY for each player.  None of this playing for 60 minutes, logging off, and logging back on to play another 60.  I don't have enough time in the day to keep up! :)   Maybe this is cool in World of Warcraft, heh, but since we're not all playing simultaneously, free reign on logins doesn't allow for other players to react to other player's actions.  My $0.02.

Ironically, finding the oracle in Tinot is next to impossible because she camps out on the rocks that you can never get too without blowing them up with a missle.  You'll find her once in a while, but that is it.

But who needs oracle hunting when you can makes billions in one hour?

I would like to see the cap for total play in one day set to 60 as well.  The only issue I see this causing is a greater tendency towards using a doppelganger account to get more time.  I don't really see a way to reliably prevent doppelganger  accounts so we would just be on the honor system which is fine by me as we move forward to start a new game.  This may entice more people to play if they know that they can't get mowed down by someone who simply has more time to play than them.

That requires me to track down the VNC password to a computer that is several thousand miles from me.

Dub, can't you just drive to The Colony and change it yourself?  :P

Kidding of course.  I'll try and make the adjustments tonight!

I would drown trying to drive to Dallas before I even got to Hawaii.

It's going to take a while guys, I can't find the password for the box and it's one of those "no one will ever guess this!" kinds.

Any thoughts about the time limits and combat speed these days?

Good question.  The only way I can really tell is to jump in a game.  Did you change the calculations based on real clock time so the value is consistent across all machines?

I concur: the speed on the expert game is painfully slow.  I can hit in the 'A' range even if 'A' is the first series to display.  I'll jump into a Sharpshooter practice and check some values.

I think one reason the speed was slowed down because if for whatever reason it gets really choppy then its still possible to hit a target.  However when its not choppy it is painfully slow as Weezal suggests.  I really like the speed at this BBS and it hasn't been choppy the few times I have played.

Good find!  I had a flawless session, no bumps or burps in the connection, and the action combat speed is decent.  I think my accuracy was mid 90s%.  I think it's more fun when the average accuracy is in the 80s%.  The faster the speed, the closer to the 'slash'ing sensation.

Yes.  The Windows versions should be accurate to about 15ms on NT platforms.  (That's a limitation of NT ... still ...)  Actually I've heard of a hack to increase that accuracy so I'll look in to it.  I remember it being a problem for the WoW client.

The DOS version does a little speed test at startup so it can get strange in rare cases.  I want to try and change it to something better, but I need to dig up all of the references on hooking into to the low level DOS timers.  I think 1.3 will be the last DOS version ever.  It is such a pain. :)
