1  Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Re: OFFICIAL Operation Overkill BBS List on: August 18, 2020, 03:03:45 am
Thanks for posting.  It's been a while since I have logged in and run around the wasteland.  I might run through the game again this winter.

Cool, thanks for the tip.  Maybe I will find some time this winter to log in and do some mapping too.

I have an FAQ I created a while back.  I thought I posted it on here somewhere.  There are some bugs in the game that I mentioned too.  If interested I can see if I still have it on my hard drive and send it to you or post.
5  Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Bugs and Annoyances / Re: Being booted from the game on: November 17, 2013, 03:17:27 am
Howdy folks.     I recently ran into a bug in one of the normal OOII games I play. I loged out of a game on Convolution BBS. (version 1.20) and now the game boots me when I try to play again. I am able to plug in my game password, see the days interest gained, see a charecter screen of my stats and inventory. After that screen, it boots me out. I am past where it would boot me if I was trying to play a round too close to a previous round. I see no error message. I have talked to the sysop and he has manually run maintoo.exe and he can log into OOII with no problem. For a test I made a dupe account on that bbs and was able to start a new character and play it. Since I know the passwords to my own bases I took the dupe to a few of my bases and strangely on one base was told I used a wrong password. On the next base I was admitted. After gaining entry to that base, (the same base my main charecter is camped in) I was booted from the game on that account, and now I have two accounts that can't play OOII.

Any ideas on what causes this?  I was prepping for a run on OK and this is frustrating me.   Thanks in advance

This is a strange one.  Do you think it might be related to the boot you get when you pick the last item in a base?  With the last item bug you can usually log back in though.

A few minutes ago I was at telnet:\\bbs.memphistw.org playing OOII (even though someone beat Overkill a long time ago).
I was walking around on map 3 of Purgator mapset, near the mid-top left area where all the pits are, and was in such a hurry to get to
the hole down (to grab more duroplast hehe...4 days: 5 bases breached/looted, 1 destroyed) I didn't even notice I had 2 hp left.
Suddenly a Hexman appears....I have 3 choices...

1) Try to fight him with 2 hp...if I survived the LR hit, I could surrender half my crystals and live....hmm no way!
2) Full Surrender...and lose my nearly 20k crystals?  No way!
3) Try to Flee, and get shot in the back...no thanks!

So how did I get away with all my crystals and my life?

Simple....DISCONNECT!  Hehe...old-school trick.  You then wait 4 minutes or so and log back on (unless your plays-per-day is 1)
and you're right there where you left off before the combat.

This is not how the game was intended to be played and what I would consider to be cheating.    Unfortunately there are several ways to cheat int he game, and even more unfortunate is that there are many willing to take advantage of these things.

I tried connecting to bbs.fleethq.org and it said that it connected on port 23 but it couldn't resolve the hostname.

Synchronet BBS for Linux Version 3.16
Connection from: 129.42.161.36
Resolving hostname...

I was using Overkill Term -- V1.20 (Win32) [Build 0016]

One thing I liked a lot about the games on www.operationoverkill.com was that I could review the frontier log without having to log in.  This is a nice feature that let me keep tabs on different games without needing to actively log in.  It saves precious in game minutes by letting players tune their strategy.  The only major fault in the game, that I have found, is when the last item is picked up within a base, the game crashes and boots the player effectively erasing everything he had done during his turn, with one exception.

Sounds great.  I could be coaxed out of retirement for a game or two.
11  Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Is bbs.operationoverkill.com down? on: June 28, 2009, 03:03:23 pm
Hi,
I haven't been able to connect for a couple of months.  Was wondering if it is down or if the problem is on my end.  Thanks.
12  Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Re: OFFICIAL Operation Overkill BBS List on: February 05, 2009, 01:06:49 pm
Thanks.  I was at that spot but missed it in the upper right.  The combat is amazingly fast.   It took a little to get used after playing on these other boards.  I like the zero delay for the fight sequence too.

Thanks for the response, I posted a pic.  Here is the group link.  http://www.facebook.com/groups/edit.php?success=1&customize=&gid=120594050577#/group.php?gid=120594050577&ref=ts
I'm guessing most people that played Operation Overkill ][ back in the day aren't savy to facebook.  I don't expect many members. Smiley  It's just for fun!

Hi,
I started a facebook fan group for Operation Overkill.  I was wondering if I could snap a photo of one of the opening pages and use it for the fan club.  I'm guessing Dustin or Micheal would need to approve.
Lemme know.

Thanks.
