Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Re: Roll Call- Who's playing where..?

Hey, I'm not playing anywhere yet, but hopefully Tarix will be able to get a working compile of the Linux OOIS into my hands. I plan to start with a single player beta test, and if things work out I'll announce a multiplayer beta here on the forum. We'll see how many people we can wrangle up.
DM
I'm interested, are you going to be playing one door or more? I always liked the three doors on OOII's site. On another note, if you do get the code from Tarix, does that mean you change a few things in the game? I'm game, too. For configuration, I'd like it to be a one-play-per-day, or a time limit per day restriction (30-45 minutes). Once a day. If I have to log on two to three times a day to compete, I'll be lost in the dust, way behind everyone else! -Dustin

Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Re: POLL: Shortest reasonable time limit?

30 to 45 minutes, but if it can be done, cut down on the time it takes to tele-port between bases. The animation(if you can call it that) takes forever, and I doubt the game needs all that time to handle the transition.
30 to 45 minutes here, too. There's an certain amount of pressure and nervousness when the time limit is shorter. The grip on my Xaverus gets a little slippery. The little animation while using the telepods is to slow down the overall process of traveling. Zipping between different Bases would be waaaay too fast without it (although I understand the desire). There's nothing glorious about the animation (it's ANSI, after all); it's just meant to heighten the tension and slow the players down.

Oh.. I ran across an old place where I've played off and on for years.. I forgot it was still up and running. Pegasus Flight.
telnet://pegasus.ooii.org:2320 Who all recalls this place of OOII history..? They still run 3 versions of the game.. hard medium and newb.. telnet://DsbbS.net runs a hard/med/easy set of games as well. DF
Dwarvish -- I can't connect to Pegasus Flight for some reason. Is the telnet address you posted above correct? Or, maybe my claws are too long and I'm typing it in wrong.

Lizard bait,
It's getting fiesty in here! I like it, as long as the REAL battles are taking place on the wastelands.
If I ever get set up in a permanent living address (I'm temporarily shacked up in Dallas trying to find employment), I might set up a BBS for some SERIOUSSERIOUSSERIOUS 'killing: medium difficulty maps, limited time limits, verified users, perhaps a preset squadron vs. squadron battle (as in the old Tournament days, except now we're worldwide, baby). Ya dig? Get your shovels.
Peace n' lizard pancakes,

Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Hydrites on Map Level 2?
|
on: October 30, 2008, 09:23:26 am
|
Q: Should the Hydrites be nixed from map level 2?
New players might run into a Hydrite and decide to fight it, not knowing consequences of surrender. Being dragged off to their fortress and stuck for days could turn the player off from the game.
Thoughts? Vote on the Poll above!

Operation: Overkill BBS Door Game / Recruit Chat / Re: Missle codes

I also love fireing off the rockets and watching the terrain change as it hits its target. Now and then I've played on mapsets where there was no place to put a base because of the landscape. Fireing a missle was the only way to create one. I use basically the same method as dscribed except I go by the keyboard, left to right. eg: qwert yuiop etc. I usually have at least a 50% launch.. except for one day when I had 6 duds in a row before a successfull launch. I made sure my target was not in range of AFB's Prison, the oracle, etc.. I've never had 6 duds in a row before. Was frustrateing DF
I posted some questions on these forums a while back about missle blast radiuses, and during my practicing I think I had 5 duds in a row. It does happen and it was EXTREMELY frustrating. Dudley, Scoping out the code here, and it looks like there's a high chance of a dud. I do agree these ratios should be modified, with more successful launches. 45% = dud missile 50% = success 5% = missile silo explodes Also, a missile will not explode if the launch X,Y are within 2 sectors of the Complex, Hydrite Prison, or AFBs/Silos on map level 5.

Uhmmmm that landmine was probbly mine. Can i have it back now..? On a side note I belive that even a land mine acts like a pit trap or the tornado, in that it won't drop you lower than that 1 hitpoint. It's been awhile since I've stepped on any so I'm not sure about this though. I did my experimenting on em a long time ago. A safety net in the code is installed for new players (level 5 and below) which prevents instant death when tripping a landmine. However, if you're over level 5 and with HPs below 25, you're the latest decoration of bone splatter on the rocks. On another side note: Some of the info you posted from Hawk's FAQ is incorrect these days.
He's bird meat. Incorrect. You can find the oracle on any level.. at any level. You just won't be told of the oracle's whereabouts by the Aroura or the snitch monsters after a certin point/level.
The dwarf isn't as mad as he plays himself to be! He states the truth. I don't know when the aroura gets uppity with her information as I've never really hunted it down for game information. But I am aware there is a limit. Shes a cranky ole broad }:)
She will give accurate information on the oracle's location, albeit expensive. She sucks a mean neck. -Weez

**********Nice to know things about the game********** 1. The following are the only things that can kill you in the game: 1) Fighting Monsters 2) Getting Shot in the Back (I hate this one.) 3) Dying of Hunger 4) Excessive Radiation 5) Diseases 6) Poison 7) STUPIDITY - Not surrendering to monster's because you don't want to give them half your crystals or you want something they are carrying, i.e. Weapons, armor, trikorder. Other players (after you log out of the game.) This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I hate it when a higher level player kills lower level players. This game is about killing Overkill not each other. The only time I will kill another player is if they Attack me while I am camped out in the wastelands or in my base, Attack my bases, steal my trikorder, they are a higher level than I, or are killing lower level players and destroying their property. A player who kills a lower level player without cause (ie for kicks) is a sore on the wastelands and should be shown no mercy, and killed on site, if they are found dead in the wastelands they should be stripped of everything and left for the vultures. Other than the above reasons you can wander around the Wastelands indefinitely with 1 hp. In other words you can fall in as many pits, and ride the cyclone as many times as you want with 1 hp and it won't kill you, but if you suffer from 1-6 listed above, you have a very good chance of dying. ...and Landmines! I just re-discovered this gruesome fact today.
