Where is the safest place to camp in the wastelands?

ANSWER: Gate Guard Tile in THE AFB.  Your would be killer has to kill their dopleganger, then kill you without powering up.  They would have to be substantially more powerful than you to kill you.

The complex is the safest but your subject did say the wastelands so what you describe does seem like a good place to camp.  There is an AFB on each level, from what I have read, only the 5th level AFB has the trap door with WRR and the Influx chamber. How are the AFBs on the other 4 levels different?  I may have known the answer to this at one point, but its been 12+ years since I have played this game.

they are increasingly more complex.  You can not sleep in the wrr either - if you log out while in there, you end up sleeping on top of the hatch where you are viewable/attackable by others.  You don't have AFB maps?

then download the oofaq and open the AFB maps.

I did have that downloaded and tool a peek, it looks like level 2 is the first with the GG tile.  Do you know what the #_ and UU tiles are?  Also, to log out on a GG tile, do you just allow yourself to be attacked by your clone and then log out/disconnect?

THe UU are holes just like on the outside, except you can not slip through to the next level the #_ are doors that do nothing (they are open).  I am going to do some experimenting but I don't think they do anything.

As for the GG, the legit way to do it is you can attack it and the press "*" to logoff in your one chance to do anything.  If you are carrying a bunch of medpacks, if you are ever "viewed" by another recruit you automatically medpack up to full HP.  They will use their one chance to do anything to view you, so they do not have the chance to medpack up.  Or, a loophole is at the beginning of the encounter with the dopleganger, you can simlpy close the window which will drop the carrier and leave you sleeping there.

Also, I found that item cloning is far easier if there is a dead recruit, or a squad mate camping on the GG tile.  Instead if just "picking up" after the encounter and running, you investigate camp.  From the investigate camp menu, you can not use items but you can steal, give, drop, pick up as much as your heart desires until you are ready to leave camp and run from the second dopleganger.  I doesn't speed up the process too much - actually slows it down.  It just takes the pressure of getting it exactly right each time.

It also gives me the option of picking up AND dropping which is nice to grab the items for sale but also ditch a long range weapon if I am left with little HP.  You don't want to get shot by the second encounter while running away  - when item cloning, I have died from this more often than anything else.  If I had a lot of HP after the encounter, I leave the tile with two LR weapons.  If I had a little HP after the encounter, I leave the tile with two H2H weapons.

Once again, great tips.  I don't think I would stand much of a chance in a 1v1 game against you Smiley
