When a missile sucessuflly explodes, does its blast radius look like this with the resulting terrain being updated,

W%%%W
W%U%W
W%%%W
_WWW_

or

WWWWW
W%%%W
W%U%W
W%%%W
WWWWW

What my question is really about are the corners of the blast radius, in other words if a base was in the corner would it have it shields/defense breached?

One thing I am pretty sure is that if any of the blast radius would touch a missile silo, AFB, hydrite prison, or the complex, then it simply tells you it was a dud even if it normally would have been a successful explosion.

I'll see if I can test this out in the Journeyman game before it gets reset.

well my luck is horrible in launching missiles (1 of 5) and so I didn't get to fire a new one, but I went back and looked at the blast radius of a previous one and sure enough there was still rock at the corners of where the missile landed.  This confirms your answer.
